Sydney

Sydney, Adelaide, Whyalla, Melbourne, Newcastle, Brisbane

I arrived in Sydney on Easter Day and was given a whirlwind tour of the Sydney area including a trip to Sydney Zoo where a demonstration of snake venom milking was made on a brown snake said to be one of the deadliest in the world. I also visited a number of other cities that all had quite different characters. Whyalla stuck in mind memory due to the salt flats and desert surrounding it. It has also the distinction of having a steel works and a mountain of iron ore 50 km away called Iron Knob that feeds it.

Brisbane

Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Brisbane

We were booked into a hotel in Central Sydney, in an area called Kings Cross. Before we arrived we hadn’t really done our homework so it was only after we arrived and walked around the area that we realised where we were. Very bohemian and chic. Leaving the air-conditioned airport and walking into a 42 deg C wall of hot air in Perth is what most sticks in my mind as well as a leisurely drive up the gold coast from Sydney to Brisbane in a camper. We got to the camper rental site to find that our travel agent had booked the camper for the month after our visit there. Luckily, after a few hours wait the camper rental company was able to clean an newly returned van for us.

Sydney, Parramatta

A few days break on my way to New Zealand. Stayed in Parramatta which is not exactly the heart and soul of Sydney, but it does have a couple of good restaurants and a pleasant sleepy feel to it.
